National Apprenticeship Fair candidates will get stipend directly from the government: Education Minister

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said that the stipend amount for the candidates to be selected in the National Apprenticeship Fair will be directly transferred to the trainees’ bank account. In addition, a digital dashboard will be set up to streamline the apprenticeship process. The fair has been started today at more than 700 places in the country.

“The Government of India will directly transfer its contribution of Rs 1,500 to the apprentice’s bank account. The company will also transfer the stipend amount directly,” Pradhan told news agency PTI.

The government aims to ensure that over 10 lakh trainees get involved with the corporates and thus avail the opportunity of earning while learning, the minister has said.

A digital dashboard will be set up to further streamline the apprenticeship process and connect our youth to relevant opportunities in the 21st century. Our endeavor will be to ensure that over 10 lakh trainees engage with corporates as apprentices and take advantage of this opportunity as they learn and find their entrance into the industry,” he added.

More than 4000 organizations from over 30 industries including Power, Retail, Telecom, IT/ITES, Electronics, Automotive and more participated in the event. Interested candidates have been given a choice of more than 500 trades including Welder, Electrician, Housekeeper, Beautician, Mechanic and others. They were given on-the-spot apprenticeship offers with monthly stipend as per government norms.

The government said the main objective of the program was to encourage the hiring of around one lakh apprentices and to assist employers to identify and develop their potential through training and practical skills.

Individuals who have passed Class 5 to 12, Skill Training Certificate, ITI Diploma or Graduation Degree are eligible to participate in the Apprenticeship Fair. The candidates will get a certificate recognized by the National Council of Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), which will increase their employment prospects after the training, an official statement said.
