National Blockchain Framework: Adoption of Blockchain Technology for e-Governance: Meity Report – Times of India

New Delhi: Amidst the debate over the fate of cryptocurrencies in the country, a government document has recommended the establishment of a National Blockchain Framework To use it in governance by adopting emerging technology.
“This document provides insights on strategies and recommendations to build a trusted digital platform using Blockchain Technology (BCT), facilitate reliable service delivery to citizens and businesses and make India a global leader in research and development. Builds and takes advantage of emerging technology,” according to National Strategy on Blockchain Towards enabling reliable digital platform reports prepared by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Mety).
It said the potential of BCTs can be explored in proposed public digital platforms in various sectors such as agriculture, health, energy and others to meet the increased security requirements.
The integration of the National Blockchain Framework with Online Electronic Signature (e-Sign), e-Praman and Digilocker will be an added advantage, the report said. It said that globally many countries have launched platforms and services using blockchain technology and many vendors are offering blockchain-as-a-service to customers. It cited examples of its use by companies such as China, the United Arab Emirates, the US, Brazil, Chile, Canada, Singapore, Switzerland and LG. samsung, Amazon, Microsoft, Oracle and IBM.
Initially, the National Blockchain Framework will be used for the e-governance domain. Transition will be made beyond e-governance to include various use cases and the National Blockchain Framework will be open to relevant stakeholders. The report said the government would define policies and guidelines.
