Navalny: Navalnaya calls Kremlin a ‘coward’ on eve of husband’s trial – Times of India

Moscow: The jailed wife Kremlin critic alexey Navalny Russian officials lashed out on Monday on the eve of a new trial that could extend his sentence by more than a decade.
Navalny, President Vladimir PutinThe U.S.’s most outspoken domestic critic was jailed last February for two and a half years on a chronic fraud charge that he and West were guilty of at the Kremlin after escaping a toxic attack.
A new hearing is scheduled for Tuesday in his penal colony outside Moscow on additional fraud and contempt of court charges against Navalny.
“Listen, cowards and scoundrels! I demand that I be allowed to attend the trial of my husband,” Yulia new45, said on Instagram.
Alexey and Yulia have been married for more than 20 years and have two children together.
The latest trial will take place in his penal colony in the town of Pokrov outside the capital.
Navalnaya said that the new case is “so pathetic that they are afraid to go to trial in Moscow”.
Navalnaya said, “My husband is an honest man.” “And they are keeping him in jail because he is not afraid of this government”.
The fraud case against Navalny began in December 2020, while the 45-year-old was recovering in Germany after a narrow escape from nerve agent poisoning.
Investigators accused Navalny of stealing for personal use more than $4.7 million donated to his political organizations. The charges carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
Navalani was also jailed for up to six months for contempt of court during one of his hearings last year.
Navalny’s poisoning and arrest led to widespread condemnation abroad as well as sanctions from Western capitals.
Following his arrest, Navalny’s political organizations across the country were declared “extremist” and closed, while several prominent aides fled Russia for fear of prosecution.
