“I came to know recently that a tree inside Namrata Preet CHS, Sector 16 was cut so badly that a bird’s nest on it was completely exposed to rain. He further said that citizens tree officerAnil Gaikwad also inspected the site on his request; After which additional leaves were added from the cut branches to protect the nest.
“I told the people who cut this tree why they had disregarded the presence of a bird’s nest on it. So I had to further inform the NMMC,” Shankar said.
RTI activist Anarjit Chauhan commented, “It is unfortunate that the tree officer was not present at the time of felling of this tree in Koparkhairane. Also, it is surprising that NMMC has still not appointed full time horticulturist, who is of higher rank. Goes against. Court order. Had an on-duty tree officer been present, perhaps the bird’s nesting tree could have been spared.”
