Navjot Singh Sidhu resigns from the post of Punjab Congress President

Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu Congress president Sonia Gandhi tendered her resignation on Wednesday, a day after the PCC presidents of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur were asked to resign to facilitate the reorganization of the PCC.

The cricketer-turned-politician shared the information about his resignation on his Twitter handle.

He tweeted, ‘As per the wishes of the Congress President, I have sent my resignation…’

After the party’s defeat in the recently held assembly elections in five states, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday asked her state unit chiefs in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab and Manipur to tender their resignations.

The ax fell on Congress satraps, including Punjab president Navjot Singh Sidhu, two days after the Congress Working Committee (CWC) deliberated on the reasons for the party’s defeat in the latest round of state assembly elections. The Congress failed to grab the four BJP-ruled states and lost Punjab to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Party’s chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said on Twitter, “Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi has asked the PCC Presidents of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur to tender their resignations to facilitate the reconstitution of the PCC.”

The results of the five assembly elections came as a setback for the Congress, which is hoping to revive its prospects for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and do well to replace the emerging challenger from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Trinamool Congress. Was being as the basis of anti-BJP politics in the country.
