Sharadiya Navratri 2022: It is again that time of the year when Hindu devotees worship the nine incarnations of Goddess Durga with great enthusiasm and fervor during the festivities of Navratri. This festival is celebrated twice a year, the first one is known as Chaitra Navratri which falls in March-April. The one we celebrate in the months of September and October is called Sharad Navratri. This year Sharad Navratri has started on 26th September during Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month.

Maa Kalratri, the seventh incarnation of Maa Durga, is worshiped on the 7th day of Navratri. Maa Kalratri, also known as Goddess Shubhankari, is depicted as the destructive form of the goddess, as she has a dark black form, immaculate hair, three eyes and four hands in abhaya and varada mudras. The seventh day of Navratri will be celebrated today on October 2 during Saptami Tithi. According to the Drik Panchang, Saptami Tithi will be effective from 7:16 pm on 1 October to 5:17 pm on 2 October.

Maa Kalratri is considered a divine light and an endless source of knowledge. It is believed that she rules over the planet Saturn. Therefore, those who worship Maa Kalratri on this day get good luck and wisdom.

Worship and Bhog for Maa Kalratri:

  1. It is considered especially auspicious to perform Navagraha Puja on this day.
  2. The followers worship with rice, bhog, flowers, incense sticks, Ganga water, dry fruits and Panchamrit.
  3. Night blooming jasmine is the favorite flower of Maa Kalratri, so she is offered jasmine during the puja to please the goddess.

Jaggery or anything made of jaggery is offered as prasad to Maa Kalratri. On the night of Saptami, devotees also perform Shringar Puja, in which they present items used in day-to-day cosmetics in a set of two. The items are divided into two sets, one set is later given to the temples, and the other set is kept as offerings by the followers.
