Nawazuddin Siddiqui Reveals Why He Worked As A Watchman Despite Having Money: ‘Meri Shakal Soorat Aisi…’ – News18

Nawazuddin Siddiqui was last seen in Haddi.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui said that he did not want to depend on his parents’ money.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui worked as a watchman before he became a prolific actor. This led to fans believing that he belonged to a financially unstable household. However, the actor recently clarified that this was not the case and his family had money. He said he took up that job because he didn’t want to depend on his family’s money.

Speaking to Shubhankar Mishra, Nawazuddin said that just because he worked as a watchman doesn’t mean that he comes from a financially unstable background. He added, “Meri shakal soorat aisi thi, main gareeb toh nahi tha.”

Nawazuddin said that he took up the job of a watchman because he didn’t want to take money from home. The actor added that his parents were always ready to help him. He said, “That’s because I would not take money from home. There was money at home always, thoda bohot paisa tha…but I didn’t want to take money from my family because I was doing a job of my choice without even telling them. My parents were always ready to give me money, they’d say, ‘Kuch problem ho toh le le. You aren’t asking for any money and we don’t even know what you are doing.’”

Meanwhile, on the work front, the actor is currently seen in Rautu Ka Raaz. Set in the small, quaint village of Rautu Ki Beli, the film is about a boring murder investigation with sharp twists and even sharper turns. News18’s review of the film reads, “Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays the loutish police officer Deepak Negi and leads the ship. By loutish, we don’t mean the typical Bollywood masala film lout. He is intelligent, witty, knows when to say no, can get things done, defies elders by insisting on his point of view and is completely himself. He certainly takes the bigger piece of the pie. Nawazuddin’s comic timing, dialogues and demeanour have always taken him far. Thankfully, this continues in Rautu Ka Raaz as well.”

Nawazuddin has been seen in several smaller OTT projects lately. When asked about why he does films with a small budget, he recently told The Indian Express, “I do ‘small films’ because I have come here to do that only. Yes, at times I also do big films, play small roles in them, woh paise ke liye karte hai (I do that for the money). Paise milte hai acchhe usmein, taaki hum humaari chhoti filmein bana sake (you get paid well so then you can do small films).”

He added, “I make sure I am balanced that way. Periodically I review the kind of films I am doing. If I have done one big film, budget-wise, then I make sure I do a couple of small films. There is not very good money in small films, so one needs to balance it out. I have been doing this from the very beginning of my career.”
