NCP workers protest against Karnataka CM Bommai in Maharashtra amid tension over Belagavi dispute

Thane/Nashik: NCP members on Sunday performed ‘abhishek’ of milk on idols of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Thane city, Ambernath Basti and Nashik in Maharashtra.

He also staged a protest against Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai for condemning the alleged desecration of Chhatrapati Shivaji’s statue in Bengaluru.

Earlier in the day, NCP members gathered near the statue of the 17th century king and performed ‘abhishek’ of milk at Ambernath. They raised slogans hailing the Maratha king.

A similar ‘abhishek’ was performed at the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji at Masunda Lake in Thane city, adjacent to Mumbai.

On this occasion, the workers slapped the picture of the Chief Minister of Karnataka.

Speaking to reporters, Thane’s Guardian Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde said that this is not the first time that the national symbol Shivaji Maharaj has been insulted in one way or the other.

He reiterated that the Karnataka government should take strict action against the culprits of the Bengaluru incident.

“Otherwise, we know how to deal with them. The local government (Karnataka) will be responsible,” he said.

Tension prevailed in Belagavi bordering Maharashtra on Saturday after alleged members of the Maharashtra Integration Committee vandalized a statue of freedom fighter Sangoli Rayanna following reports that a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was vandalized in Bengaluru.

Milk was poured on the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj during an agitation by NCP members at Pathardi Phat area on the Mumbai-Agra highway in Nashik.

Later, they raised slogans against the Chief Minister of Karnataka.

He demanded that the Central and Karnataka governments take the incident of indecency in Bengaluru seriously.

“We respect Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as our Lord. Hence, the Center should intervene in the matter and take strict action against the miscreants,” said a former MLA.
