Mizoram Rajya Sabha member K Vanlalvena has called for increasing the number of Hindi teachers in the North-East region, emphasizing the importance of language in national integration.

He also urged the Center to allocate more funds to increase the salary components of Hindi teachers in the Northeast. Mizo National Front MP said in the Upper House of Parliament on Friday that 855 posts of Hindi teachers have been sanctioned in Mizoram under the Samagra Shiksha Yojana.

“While this may fill the gap in the need of Hindi teachers in government schools and government aided schools, the most important stage of education in language learning i.e. primary schools has not been provided with the facility to learn Hindi language in the Northeast till date. ,” Vanlalvena was said in a statement. As per the new norms under the scheme, the Centre’s share in salaries of various components, especially teachers, is reduced on an annual basis, which puts more strain on the finances of the state governments, MP said.

Vanlalvena also advocated amendment in the conditions of appointment of Hindi teachers. Hindi is a very important factor in building and safeguarding national integration, especially with respect to the children of the Northeast region, the MP said.
