NEET 2021: Rajasthan Board toppers, CBSE’s performance in medical admissions decline

NS Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) It has lost its place as the top performing board in the medical entrance exam – NEET this year. Most of the students, including the toppers, are from CBSE for the past few years, so much so that Tamil Nadu in its report for analyzing NEET claimed that the medical entrance exam is biased towards the central board.

In contrast, at least 66.5 per cent of the students who cleared the medical entrance exam this year are from state boards. The share of CBSE among the top two lakh students in the medical entrance examination is only 39 per cent.

Rajasthan Leading the Pack

Rajasthan Board leads the way with 19.8 percent students who have secured 1 lakh rank in NEET from RBSE. The top one lakh followed by Rajasthan Board is Odisha with 14.9 per cent students and CBSE is at the third position with 14.5 per cent.

State-wise, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh have the highest number of candidates ranking 1-10,000. In fact, there are over 6,000 candidates in the 1-100,000 rank cohort across five states, including Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, apart from Rajasthan and UP.

Tamil Nadu along with other 18 states has seen a drop in the qualifying percentage. However, the state has recorded the highest number of candidates till date in the top 1 lakh.

AMU also has the highest number of students passing the exam in terms of pass percentage.

Many states have seen a reduction in eligibility rates as compared to 2019. Andhra Pradesh’s qualifying rate declined by 6.2%, followed by Bihar (6.5%), Kerala (7.1%), and Manipur (12.5%). Not so, a total of 18 boards registered a decline in the qualifying rates as compared to 2019. The list includes three national boards, CBSE, NIOS and CISCE.
