NEET 2022: Case registered against eligibility criteria in medical entrance

A case has been registered in the Supreme Court regarding this National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) Eligibility Criteria for Opening School Students and Private Candidates. This challenges the eligibility criteria which does not allow these students to apply for medical admission. The matter is now listed for hearing on April 19.

One user tweeted, “Open school/private candidates/students of additional biology (after 12th with PCM) are eligible after the DHC decision in 2018 but the matter is pending in the Supreme Court.”

He said that, “On one hand, in NEP-2020, they are insisting on open school/distance education, but on the other hand they are preventing open school/private students from taking NEET-UG.”

meanwhile, National Testing Agency (NTA) has removed the upper age limit to take the exam. Till last year, the upper age limit was 25 years for general category candidates and 30 years for reserved category candidates. Now that has been removed. According to experts, this elimination age limit may increase the competition for the exam as the number of students appearing for the exam may increase.

NTA gave another exam this year. The time period has been extended. Students will get 20 minutes extra for the exam, however, the number of questions will remain at 180. Students will now get 3 hours 20 minutes or 200 minutes to solve the medical entrance exam. Experts believe that it can prove to be a game changer for the candidates. However, NTA has not yet clarified whether the increased time duration in the exam is only for r.
