NEET 2022: Tips for state board students to prepare for medical entrance

NEET 2022: If you are a state board student preparing for medical entrance exam and think that CBSE students have an advantage over you? think again. according to the analysis of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2021 Results for UG, 66 per cent of the total 8.7 lakh candidates who qualified for the medical entrance exam were from boards other than CBSE. Among the top 1 lakh candidates, Rajasthan Board leads with 19 percent students.

Even though most toppers give credit to NCERTs – which are prescribed by the central board – for their preparation, state board students can make it big in medical entrance exams as well.

State Board and NEET Syllabus Gap

Earlier, NEET was completely based on CBSE syllabus and it was a big loss for a state board student. There was a significant difference in the syllabus of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. But in 2018 the then Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar decided that they would take into account the syllabus of all the state boards while preparing the NEET question paper.

This is a big relief for the students of the state board and now the syllabus is not such a big hurdle for them to crack the exam. And hence, the NEET Exam Syllabus has been designed keeping in mind the 11th and 12th Class Syllabus of the State Boards, CBSE, CICSE, NIOS, COBSE. According to the report, 82 percent questions in NEET 2021 can be solved from whose books? Tamil Nadu Board.

preliminary preparation

To prepare for NEET, it is necessary to have good knowledge of the subjects of class 11th. So you should start your preparation from class 11 itself. Starting early is an advantage as it tests concepts and fundamentals from the subjects taught in 11th and 12th.

Language

Language has been another hurdle for the state board students as earlier the NEET paper was designed in only two languages- English and Hindi. But from 2017 onwards it was announced that students can take exams in more than two languages. In addition, NEET 2022 exam will be conducted in 13 languages - English, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi, Odia, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi. Telugu, Tamil and Urdu.

NCERT not enough

A big question for a state board student preparing for NEET is whether the NCERT syllabus is sufficient for the preparation? The answer is no. NCERT focuses on basic concepts and sometimes direct questions can be asked from these books. Keeping in mind the competition and the marks required to get into a good medical college, candidates preparing for the exam need to read other relevant books apart from NCERT. State board students must also focus on NEET study material or reference books and daily practice papers.

Make a list of important topics

Students preparing for NEET must make a plan and strategy to cover the syllabus. To achieve this, they have to identify and practice the top 80 percentile chapters from each subject (which covers both Class 11 and 12 subjects). These are some of the important topics from where most of the questions are expected:

Physics: thermodynamics, mechanics, optics, nuclear physics

chemistry: Mole Concept, Coordination Chemistry, Chemical Bonding, Organic Chemistry, Periodic Table

the biology: Genetics, Reproduction, Ecology and Environment, Cell Biology, Biotechnology, Morphology

To cover these topics and syllabus, the reference books that students should study are the NCERTs for all the three subjects, Dinesh Objective Biology, Trumans Biology – Volume 1 and Volume 2, Physical Organic Chemistry by OP Tandon, Organic Chemistry by Morrison and Boyd, Concepts of Physics by HC Verma, Problems in General Physics by IE Irodov.

The most important thing for state board students preparing for NEET is their positive attitude. As your approach decides the effectiveness of your learning process. If your attitude is negative then it can create problems for you. So adopting a positive attitude will definitely lead to success.

The competition is huge and tremendous. If you have a true desire for success with a positive attitude, you can face all the obstacles without any problem. The candidates who are strong-willed and who can put in good efforts in the last two-three weeks will have the upper hand and can crack NEET successfully.
