The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has advised medical institutions to post their seat matrix on the official website, mcc.nic.in, for NEET UG counselling in 2024. According to the MCC, medical institutes participating in NEET UG counselling can publish their seat listings to the platform until July 20. Based on statistics provided by the Ministry of Health, Tamil Nadu has the highest number of MBBS seats in government medical institutions (5,275), followed by Maharashtra with 5,125. In all, there are 1,08,940 MBBS seats in India. All of this happens against the backdrop of about 23 lakh medical candidates impatiently awaiting the Supreme Court’s decision on the NEET 2024 retest and cancellation.

The MCC issued a notification requesting institutes to begin putting their seats on the site as soon as possible so that the seat allotment procedure may be completed on schedule. “Institutes participating in UG Counselling 2024 are hereby informed that the intramcc portal for the contribution of UG seats is open now. Hence, institutes are requested to start entering their seats on the portal at the earliest so that the process of seat contribution can be completed timely,” according to the announcement.

The NEET-UG 2024 case hearing has been scheduled by the Supreme Court for July 18. On Monday, a bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice JB Pardiwala ruled that the new batch of petitions, as well as those pending in the high courts, should be referred to the Supreme Court because they address the same problem. This ruling is intended to guarantee a consolidated and full evaluation of all relevant instances.

The NEET-UG 2024 counselling procedure will be held in four phases beginning in the latter part of July. The counselling procedure is the final step in the medical college admissions process. Candidates shall only be accepted to undergraduate medical programmes from the All India Merit List of qualified applicants, which will be created based on their All India Rank in the Merit List of NEET (UG) – 2024, according to the current reservation policy. The NEET (UG) – 2024 merit list’s All India Rank will be the only factor used to determine admission to undergraduate medical programmes within the appropriate categories.
