Apart from cinema, Prem is also fond of weaving. Belonging to a family of weavers, Prem saw his father, Basappa, working on the family power-loom. “I am proud of my heritage and my entire family is engaged in weaving. I am also fond of handloom and worked in that field for 13 years, reviving and learning every nuance of the craft from my father. In fact, I managed my family’s looms. But the maintenance was tough. Our weavers are skilled and make exquisite garments, but lack marketing skills. When we were under a lot of stress, I turned to acting. Soon, I hope to do something for the weaving and textile community. But, today people know what they wear, but weavers have to learn to highlight their craft and products as the overseas market for such products is very good.
