The committee will also consider the implications of situations like COVID-19 while developing the NCF.

According to senior MoE officials, the new NCF is likely to be finalized before 2022 and the curriculum is to be started in a phased manner from the new academic session. This will be the fifth National Curriculum Framework, which will come after a gap of 16 years.

TOI reported on June 26, 2021 that new curriculum development will not be an over the top exercise and consultations will be conducted at the district level after the states/UTs come up with their own syllabus before implementing the NCF. The status papers in the areas/subjects identified as per NEP 2020 will form the basis of the State Curriculum Framework (SCF) on the basis of which the NCF is to be developed. All position papers will have two sections. The first section will be common to all focus group papers and the second section will cover the specific features of the position paper.

The committee will finalize the NCF after incorporating the suggestions received from various stakeholders i.e. States/UTs and attending meetings of Executive Committee (EC) and General Body (GB) of NCERT and Central Advisory Board on Education (CABE) .
