Nepal plane crash: Officials suspect all died, rescuers retrieve 14 bodies

All 22 people, including four Indians, are feared dead on board the Tara Air plane that crashed in Nepal’s Mustang district on Sunday. Home Ministry spokesperson Fadindra Mani Pokharel told ANI on Monday, “We suspect that all the passengers on board the plane have lost their lives. Our preliminary assessment showed that no one could have survived the accident, but the official statement remains.”

“The search and rescue team has physically located the plane crash site. Details will be followed,” Nepal Army spokesperson Brigadier General Narayan Silwal said on Twitter.

“Crash site: Sanosware, Thasang-2, Mustang,” he tweeted along with a photo of the plane’s wreckage.

The search operation was resumed this morning after being stopped on Sunday due to bad weather.

Four Indian nationals, two German and 13 Nepalese passengers, besides a three-member Nepalese crew were on board the Tara Air plane. The Canadian-made plane was flying from the city of Pokhara to the popular tourist town of Jomsom in central Nepal.

In March 2018, a US-Bangla air crash occurred at Tribhuvan International Airport, killing 51 people.

In September 2012, a Sita Air flight crashed while making an emergency landing at Tribhuvan International Airport, killing 19 people.

According to the airline website, Tara Air is the newest and largest airline service provider in the Nepalese mountains. It started its business in 2009 with a mission to help develop rural Nepal.
