Family members of four people from Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur who died in a plane crash in Nepal left for Kathmandu on January 16 to receive the bodies, a district administration official said.

Ghazipur District Magistrate Aryka Akhouri said, “The bodies will be handed over after identification and completion of all formalities. The bodies will be brought to the district by road. It may take 2-3 days.”

“One each from the families of the victims and village heads have been sent by the administration to Nepal by road. Altogether 8-9 people have been sent by the administration and they will reach Nepal by tomorrow,” the official said.

He said two officials of the district administration are accompanying the family members to help with paperwork at the border and in Nepal. He said embassy officials are also helping in the process.

The four Ghazipur residents on board the crashed plane were identified as Sonu Jaiswal, 35, Abhishek Kushwaha, 25, Vishal Sharma, 22 and Anil Kumar Rajbhar, 27.

The District Magistrate said that the families of the victims would be provided appropriate assistance from the Chief Minister’s discretionary fund and other government schemes.

All 72 people on board are believed to have died as rescue workers made little progress on Monday in finding any survivors.

Officials said 41 of the 69 bodies recovered so far in Pokhara have been identified as Nepal observed national mourning on Monday. Due to the difficult terrain, rescuers were struggling to retrieve the remaining three bodies from the crash site.

Yeti Airlines said in a statement that a Nepalese army helicopter has been to Pokhara to airlift the bodies of foreign nationals, crew members and those whose identities have not been established to Kathmandu for forensic examination.
