Nepal wicket-keeper Asif Sheikh has won hearts on social media after making a ‘spirit of cricket’ gesture against Ireland in the ongoing Oman quadrangular T20 series clash at the Al Amrat Cricket Ground on Monday. The incident happened during the 19th over when Shaikh refused to run out Ireland’s Andy McBrine, who was accidentally trapped by Nepal pacer Kamal Singh Airi while trying to take a single. Even the commentators were shocked to see the incident and praised Asif for his action.

“Here in the commentary box gives me goosebumps because it’s a poignant moment. It was accidental, and he could have run him out from here, and Asif Shaikh has said, ‘No, because of the spirit of him doing this’ It’s not going to do the game’. This is your nominee for the 2022 Spirit of Cricket Award for the ICC,” a commentator said on-air.
