Vadodara: While for artificial houses sparrows – which has become a rare sight in much of the city – is regularly distributed and installed, details have been collected about the bird in use for the first time and even Reproduction In them. The effort to distribute the house for sparrows was started by Star India last year. The organization encourages people to join the initiative and also provides them houses, feeders, bags of fodder for sparrows.
Apart from the members, the organization has also provided sparrow houses and other materials in 53 public places or offices, said Tanuj Desai, the architect who initiated the project. These include police stations, municipal facilities and other places.
“We have over 400 members now and around 450 kits have been installed so far with 22 items including houses and feeders. An additional 1,000 cardboard houses were distributed on World Sparrow Day.
Desai told that 166 chicks were born in the houses established by the institution. “They occupied or blown away other houses,” Desai said.
More than 370 houses already have sparrows nesting In them.
Ajay Patel, a businessman who installed four artificial houses, said two of them were occupied by sparrows.
“Two children were born in a house. They grew up and flew away. Other small birds have also started coming from the feeders to eat,” he said.
For many people, sparrow houses and feeders evoke childhood memories.
“As children, we also saw sparrows in the alligator pole and used to feed them and other birds. Now we live in Diwalipura. While our sparrow house is yet to be occupied, many smaller birds come to feed from the feeders,” said Pragnesh Shah, financial investment advisor.
