Netflix launches Play Something, Fast Laughs feature for Android

Netflix has announced an update to its Android app that will bring the Play Something and Fast Laugh features. The former, a random Shuffle Play feature, was first tested in May and added as a feature to the TV app in April. The Fast Laugh feature is similar to TikTok in that it shows random short comic clips in rapid fire. It first appeared for the iOS app back in March. Fast Laugh displays full-screen vertical video in an auto-playing feed.

Play Something Update for Netflix is out at the moment Android user only. The video-streaming platform mentions that it will be testing the feature first iOS in the coming months. However, the new-for-Android Fast Laugh feature has already been available on iOS devices since March.

Netflix’s Play Something feature can be accessed via a new button added to the home screen – after the user selects a profile. It appears in the lower-right corner, above the bottom menu bar. The Play Something button hovers over the contents of the Home screen. It’s basically a shuffle play option that plays a movie or TV show that Netflix thinks a user might want to watch.

However, the shuffle play feature is not random as Netflix will only play content based on users’ interests and past viewing behavior. Play will continue to play certain content that users have started but haven’t completed, added to their watch list, or brand new content that Netflix’s algorithm can recommend to users.

In addition, Netflix has added a TIC TocIts mobile apps-esque feature – Fast Laugh. This feature shows random short funny clips in full-screen vertical format in the auto-playing feed. The down bar gets its own dedicated menu with Fast Laugh House, coming soon, And download. facility was there before introduced The clips featured here will be rolling out to the iOS app in March and from a vast library of stand-up TV shows, movies, and comedy genres.
