The new generation Mahindra Scorpio is expected to take a leap in terms of looks and will be quite different from the current model. It looks bulbous and will have a bigger footprint than the older model. It still retains the boxy silhouette while its edges have been smoothed out and you can see a bit of design cues from the Mahindra XUV700 as well. For example, the rising rear hunch and larger window frame are design elements that we have seen on the new XUV700 as well, while the new Scorpio will also get the new Mahindra logo. Then, the new Scorpio will also get modern-era features like LED twin-pod projector headlights, LED fog lights, large 10-spoke alloy wheels and a large amount of chrome detailing. The signature Mahindra front grille will also be present with the vertical chrome insert.

That said, the upcoming model is likely to be slightly smaller than the current model. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels while the new Scorpio is expected to get larger 18-inch alloy wheels.

While it is likely to be offered in both a six-seater (with second row captain seats) and a seven-seater seating configuration like the current model, the seats appear wider and offer better bolting. In terms of layout too, unlike Mahindra XUV700, Mahindra has given a more traditional approach to the Scorpio. A large touchscreen infotainment system takes center stage and the instrument cluster sports more traditional dials with a colorful central mid.

The outgoing Mahindra Scorpio feels pretty rudimentary in terms of creature comforts. While it offers basic features like all-door power windows, manual air conditioning, auto foldable and adjustable wing mirrors, manual six-way adjustment for the driver’s seat and touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity. It lacks some of the usual features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and auto climate control which are quite common even in smaller hatchbacks nowadays.

The new Mahindra Scorpio will share its engine line-up with the Mahindra XUV700.

The new Mahindra Scorpio is expected to get the same engine and gearbox combination as the Mahindra XUV700. So expect Mahindra to offer a new 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol motor and a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, diesel engine on the new Mahindra Scorpio. Both the engines are expected to be offered with six-speed manual and automatic gearbox options, with the diesel also set to get four-wheel drive.

The outgoing Mahindra Scorpio is a diesel only model.

The current Mahindra Scorpio only comes with a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder mHawk diesel engine mated to a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic gearbox.
