New mobile-based leave app launched for Chennai Police personnel

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated the initiative on Friday; App aims to eliminate delays and rejections in leave process for police and ensure transparency

A new mobile-based app has been launched in Chennai for police personnel to apply for leave and get it approved instantly without any hassle.

Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday formally inaugurated the initiative of Greater Chennai City Police at the Secretariat in the presence of Additional Chief Secretary (Home) SK Prabhakar, Director General of Police C. Silendra Babu and Chennai City Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal.

The new mobile app, called CLAPP (Complete Leave APP), is designed to eliminate delays, summary rejection or favoritism by the sanctioning authority and aims to ensure greater transparency in the leave process.

The Armed Reserve units of the Greater Chennai City Police have the largest contingent of personnel with over 5,800 police personnel.

Earlier, personnel ranging from the rank of constable to special sub-inspector (SSI) had to meet the concerned reporting officers amidst their hectic workload for approval of their leave applications. Once cleared, they had to enter it in their dairies at the Armed Reserve Police Unit office. Since it was cumbersome for them, the CLAPP has been introduced in the interest of police personnel, a press release said.

Mr Jiwal said Hindu, “Now these personnel need not wait physically for any paperwork. By downloading and clicking the CLAPP, employees can get their leave sanctioned without any hassle from their location. As of now, AR police personnel – both men and women from constables to special sub-inspectors can start using the app from today. The back-end data is already ready. All they have to do is download the app and they can apply online for Casual Leave, Earned Leave and Medical Leave.”

The sanctioning authority has to process and sanction the leave within three hours. If there is a delay of more than three hours, it will be referred to an officer senior to the sanctioning authority.

Special arrangements have been made for those who do not have internet. They can use advanced clap v2 and apply by sending sms.
