New portraits of Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, released on her 40th birthday; see photos

On Saturday, on the occasion of her 40th birthday, The Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton paid heartfelt tributes to Queen Elizabeth, Princess Diana and Prince William.

With pictures of her new birthday waiting, the queen caused a meltdown on social media.

Kensington Palace released three new pictures, and captioned it, “Delighted to share a new portrait of The Duchess ahead of her 40th birthday tomorrow. This is one of three new pictures that will be permanent at @nationalportraitgallery collection, of which The Duchess is the patron.”

The photo is a monochromatic shot of the Duchess in a white gown. She is seen wearing a sapphire ring with diamond and pearl drop earrings. The valuables are said to be the property of his late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.

A Vogue report said that in another image, the Duchess is seen in an Alexander McQueen gown. The diamond drop earrings worn by the Duchess in the photo are of Queen Elizabeth.

The photographs, by Paolo Roversi, will be the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery.
