The posters were mostly put up in south Kolkata’s Hazra and Kalighat areas, both near the TMC supremo’s residence in Bhawanipore.

Posters claiming “the new and reformed TMC will come into existence in six months” with pictures of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have been put up in different parts of Kolkata. The posters were mostly put up in south Kolkata’s Hazra and Kalighat areas, both near the TMC supremo’s residence in Bhawanipore.

However, none of the posters had pictures of Mamata Banerjee, which rarely appears in TMC posters since the party’s inception in 1998. Although most party leaders remained silent on the development, TMC state general secretary Kunal Ghosh, who is considered close to Abhishek Banerjee, said there was nothing wrong with the posters.

“From time to time, Abhishek Banerjee has said that we need to learn and improve ourselves. We need to fulfill the aspirations of the people. Hence some overzealous party workers may have put up posters with their quotes issued earlier,” Ghosh said. According to TMC insiders, the arrest of senior leaders Partha Chatterjee and Anubrata Mondal will have far-reaching consequences within the party as it will further strengthen the hold of the youth brigade over the organisation.

Reacting to the development, state Congress chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that these posters were the result of an internal-party conflict with the TMC. “For the past one year, an internal-party conflict has been out in the open within the TMC. But whether for good or bad, there is nothing wrong in accepting the fact that Mamata Banerjee Still is and will continue to be the driving force behind TMC,” he said.
