Kingston: New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry He has returned home with a rib injury, which has ruled him out of the three-match One Day International series against West Indies.
Henry suffered pain on the left side of his body during training last week and, with the injury not improving, Ben Sears was substituted for the series starting in Barbados on Wednesday.
Earlier, the teams meet in the third and final Twenty20 International in Jamaica on Sunday, with the tourists taking an unassailable 2-0 lead.
coach Gary Stead Said that the decision to send Henry home was a precautionary one and he hopes the veteran will be available for an ODI series for Australia in early September.
“While the injury isn’t too serious, we thought it could get worse by playing,” Stead said on Sunday.
“With the upcoming ODI series starting Wednesday and consisting of three matches over five days, we saw it prudent to bring in a fully fit replacement.
“At 24, Ben is an exciting young prospect and we love his speed and skills.”
Sears has played six T20 Internationals but is uncapped in any other format.
