Next revision based on performance: KSERC

Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC) chairman Prem Dinraj has said that the electricity tariff for the next financial year will be determined based on the performance of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB).

The commission on Saturday announced revised tariffs only for the 2022-23 financial year, though KSEB had submitted tariff proposals for 2022-23 to 2026-27 under the multi-year tariff (MYT) regime.

The Commission will not allow inefficiency or extravagance on the part of KSEB. In setting the tariff for 2022-23, the Commission had opted to minimize the impact on small consumers including household, agriculture, small scale industries and government hospitals. “The commission has not allowed any unjust increase in any of these categories,” he said.

In deciding on the amendment, the commission had taken into account several factors including the COVID-19 scenario, inflation rate in the last three years and opinion circulated in public hearings on tariff petitions.

In all, 26 lakh consumers were exempted from the tariff hike, including 25 lakh domestic consumers with monthly consumption up to 50 units, Mr. Dinraj said.
