NIA officer suspended pending inquiry into corruption charges

The Union Home Ministry has suspended Vishal Garg, a Superintendent of Police rank officer working with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), pending inquiry into the allegation of corruption against him. The officer was part of the team that probed the 2007 Samjhauta Express blast case.

Confirming the development, a senior official of the agency said: “We have a zero-tolerance approach when it comes to corrupt practices.”

From the Border Security Force, Mr. Garg was later inducted into the NIA. He was earlier suspended in 2019 along with two others after it was alleged that they tried to extort ₹2 crore from a businessman on the threat that they would otherwise be implicated in a terror-financing case.

However, he was reinstated in 2020 after no evidence was found against him during the ensuing investigation. He was transferred from Lucknow to the NIA’s Delhi headquarters, and made in-charge of the “Training” section.
