The plot will see Cage play Colton Briggs, a former gunman who now runs a general store and lives quietly with his family.

After a gang of criminals murder his wife in cold blood, he is forced to return to his old lifestyle, this time with an unlikely partner: his 12-year-old daughter.

Born and raised in the West, Cage said it was time for him to star in a film of the genre.

“After 43 years in cinema, I am only now being invited to the critical and storied style of Westerns with both ‘The Old Way’ and ‘Butcher’s Crossing.

“I’m excited and compelled by the complex characters of both Briggs and Miller, and finding new ground to play at the age of 57 is really encouraging,” said the Oscar winner.

Donovo said it was an honor and privilege to work with Cage in the first western part of his illustrious career.

“Cage not only embodies the character of Briggs, but he is also an outstanding professional, a director only dreams of working to bring this enigmatic character to life. As a father of three daughters, I am a father and daughter. Can’t wait to share this compelling story and emotional journey of his discovery,” said the filmmaker.

Capstone Pictures and Intercut Capital are co-financing and producing the film. Capstone’s Christian Mercury is executive producer with David Haring. R. Brian Wright and Micah Haley are producing for Intercut Capital with Skipstone Pictures’ Sasha Yelaun, Robert Paschall, Jr., and Johnny Remo.

Donovo and Cage’s Saturn Films are also producing the film. Fred Ross, Carl W. Lucas, Joshua Bunting and Mehrdad Moedi are attached as executive producers on the project.

Cage was most recently seen in the acclaimed drama “The Pig”, directed by Michael Sarnoxy, in his feature debut. The actor will next star in “The Unseen Weight of Massive Talent”, in which he is set to play a fictionalized version of himself.
