Nike enters the metaverse with ‘Nickeland’ virtual store on Roblox

Nike on Thursday revealed a virtual world modeled after its headquarters on video game platform Roblox Corp, which has become one of the first big brands to enter the “metaverse.” The digital space, called “Nickelland”, allows players to dress up their avatars with special Nikes. products and it’s free for anyone to visit Roblox.

Visitors can currently play “Tag”, “The Floor Is Lava” and “Dodgeball” on the platform, which lets creators design their own mini-games from interactive game content. The sportswear maker said, “Nike created this bespoke world with the backdrop of its world headquarters and within the immersive 3D space of Roblox, building on its goal to transform sports and play into lifestyles.” At NIKELAND, visitors can use the accelerometer in their mobile device to transfer offline movement to online play, allowing for real-life movement in digital space.
