Nine killed, 22 injured as APSRTC bus falls into drain

SP Rahul Dev said that the bus was coming from Velerupadu towards Jangareddygudem.

Nine passengers, five women and four men were killed when an Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) bus fell into a drain near Jangareddygudem in West Godavari district on Wednesday.

District Superintendent of Police (SP) Rahul Dev Sharma said that there were 47 passengers in the bus coming from Velerupadu to Jangareddygudem.

The accident took place when the driver took a turn, hit the railing and fell into the Jaleru Nallah, in which about five feet of water was flowing. The injured were taken to the Jangareddygudem Government Hospital and the condition of two was stated to be critical.

“The exact cause of the accident was not immediately known as the driver was among those killed,” Mr Sharma said.
