Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday met CEOs of large US firms such as FedEx and Mastercard and discussed various investment opportunities in India as the country moves towards becoming the fastest growing large economy in the world.

FedEx President and CEO-elect Raj Subramaniam mentioned during the meeting with the Finance Minister that he is positive about India and has significant expansion plans, including skilling. Appreciating the government’s commitment to integrated development through the Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti Master Plan, Mr. Subramaniam said that the company is looking at R&D centers in India. Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Rs 100 lakh crore National Master Plan for Multi-Modal Connectivity, which aims to develop infrastructure to reduce logistics costs and boost the economy.

PM Gati Shakti aims to cut logistics cost, increase cargo handling capacity and reduce turnaround time. The objective of the scheme is to provide more power and speed to the projects by connecting all the concerned departments on a single platform.

According to the Economic Survey 2021-22, India is projected to grow at 8-8.5% during the current financial year ending March 2023.

Ms Sitharaman also held a meeting with Accenture Chair and CEO Julie Sweet. “Miss Sweet appreciated the proactive and transparent approach of the Government of India and said that @Accenture is adding presence to more Tier-II cities in India and focusing on upskilling talent to prepare for the emerging opportunities. Ms. Sweet Also informed that 47% of their workforce in India are women,” the finance ministry said in a tweet.

During a meeting with Mastercard CEO Mibach Michael, Ms Sitharaman spoke about the Government of India’s commitment to digital financial inclusion with a focus on women and SMEs by developing world-class home technology solutions.

The ministry tweeted, “FM Mrs @nsitharaman asked Mr @MiebachMichael @Mastercard how lessons from India’s #FinancialInclusion program can be used to develop solutions for the world.”

Mastercard informed the finance minister about its plans to set up huge data centers in India and the company’s focus on training and digitization of small businesses.

In another such engagement, he also met Puneet Renzen, global CEO of consultancy firm Deloitte.

“Mr @PunitRenjen mentioned that @Deloitte is expanding its India operations to smaller cities like Coimbatore and Bhubaneswar. In addition, he said, @Deloitte developed tools to improve access to health facilities for the rural poor And also committed to #ClimateAction in India,” a separate tweet said.
