The Nissan Micra has been one of the staples for the Japanese automotive giant. It is part of an alliance with Renault and Mitsubishi, and collectively all brands are shifting their weight towards EVs. Now, after the Leaf, Nissan is looking to electrify its iconic hatchback – the Micra, which has been teased for some time. The Alliance already has its own battery-electric vehicle platform called the CMF which is used by the Renault 5EV. The new Micra will also be based on the Reno 5, which is being built at the Electricity factory in northern France which is currently the largest EV manufacturing plant in Europe.

The Micra EV is also expected to be built in the same facility. It will replace Nissan’s existing Micra as an entry-level EV option for the European market. There could be a chance that Nissan will not offer the Micra badge.

As shared by the teaser video Nissan, it will feature large round LED daylight running lights featuring horizontal clusters in the middle. Additional vertical LEDs have been installed on each side of the bumper and between the headlights is an illuminated Nissan logo. The taillights are also inspired by the DRLs installed at the rear.

Nissan believes that the new CMF platform allows it unique styling which is reflected in the fact that it looks quite different from the Renault 5.

“This all-new model will be designed by Nissan and engineered and manufactured by Renault using our new Common Platform, which will maximize the use of our Alliance assets while maintaining the Nissan-ness. This is the Alliance’s ‘smart differential’.” A great example of the approach is Ashwini Gupta, Nissan’s Chief Operating Officer. “After our iconic Micra, I am sure this new model will provide more excitement to our customers in Europe.”
