Nitin Gadkari advocates for allowing Dhaba owners to open petrol pumps on highways

Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday informed that he has asked officials of his ministry to work on a proposal to allow small dhaba owners to build petrol pumps and toilets along highways.

Speaking at an event, the minister said that someone sent him an SMS in which he had written that he was traveling and there was not a single toilet in the 200-300 km road.

Gadkari said people are occupying roadside lands, opening dhabas which create nuisance as truck drivers park their trucks on the road. He then suggested to his officials that the ministry could work on a proposal to allow small dhaba owners to open petrol pumps with space to park 5-10 vehicles and maintain toilets for the general public.

Gadkari said, “In the morning I told the officials, just like NHAI gives NOC for petrol pumps, we should also consider giving authorized approval to small dhaba owners to build petrol pumps and toilets along the highways.”

On the pace of road construction in the country, Gadkari said that due to constant persuasion and follow-up by his ministry, the process of land acquisition for the construction of roads has been expedited. He said, we have also increased the amount of compensation for land acquisition for the construction of roads.
