Nitish Kumar would like to join the cabinet if the party gets respectable representation: CPI leader

In a departure from other Left parties’ decision to extend outside support to the new Grand Alliance government in Bihar, the CPI on Sunday said it would like to be a part of it. Nitish Kumar cabinet if the party is given “honorable representation”.

Atul Kumar Anjan, a senior leader of the Communist Party of India, said that Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav had recently met its national general secretary D Raja in Delhi and they discussed about the priorities of the “Mahagathbandhan” (grand alliance) government in the East. . State. “Talks are on with the coalition partners of the Grand Alliance government. If the CPI is given respectable representation, we would like to be a part of the Nitish Kumar cabinet.

He said that the CPI has nothing to do with the stand taken by other Left parties to extend outside support to the new Grand Alliance government. “The CPI is the largest Left party in the country, and therefore, we should be given a respectable representation in the Nitish Kumar cabinet. In the HD Deve Gowda and IK Gujral government at the Centre, our late leader Inderjit Gupta had served as the Union Home Minister from 1996 to 1998,” he said.

However, Anjan did not elaborate on the “honorable representation” that his party had sought to join the “grand alliance” government. The CPI has two MLAs in the Vidhan Sabha and the same number of members in the Bihar Legislative Council.

We welcome Nitish Kumar’s decision to break ties with BJP. This development will have a strong positive impact on the politics of the country and will lead to the reorganization of political forces. This will be visible in the 2024 general elections,” the CPI leader said.

The grand alliance in Bihar currently comprises seven parties—JD(U), RJD, Congress, CPI-ML(L), CPI, CPI(M) and HAM—which have over 160 MLAs in the 243-member assembly.
