NLCIL initiates global tender investigation for gasification block of lignite to methanol project

New Delhi: State-run NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has launched a global tender inquiry through Project Management Consultant Engineers India Limited (EIL) for the gasification block (LEPC-1) of its lignite to methanol project at Neyveli.

As a diversification initiative, NLCIL is setting up a lignite to methanol project at Neyveli at a capital cost of about 1200 TPD (tonne per day) (0.40 MTPA). 4,400 crores.

“On October 22, 2022, in the presence of Anil Kumar Jain, Secretary to the Government of India, Secretary to the Ministry, Project Management Consultant for Gasification Block (LEPC-1) of Lignite to Methanol Project for NLCIL through EIL Inquiry has been started. Coal, Amit Lal Meena, Officer on Special Duty, Ministry of Coal, along with Rakesh Kumar, CMD, NLCIL, Vartika Shukla, CMD, EIL, and other directors of both NLCIL and EIL at New Delhi,” a statement from EIL said. .

The project is expected to be commissioned in 2027, according to the statement. In June this year, EIL was appointed as the Project Management Consultant.

The project is in line with the government’s target of achieving 100 million tonnes of coal gasification by 2030, the statement said.

This development comes in the backdrop of NLCIL’s diversification plans. On 19 October, NLCIL entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE), an autonomous R&D institute under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), for strategic cooperation in the development of onshore and offshore wind energy. I entered. projects in the country.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between NLCIL and NIWE with the objective of carrying out collaborative technical services and mentorship for the development of onshore and offshore wind power projects.

Shares of NLCIL closed on BSE on Friday 70.35, up 0.72% from its previous close. EIL shares closed on BSE 63.75 per share, down 0.70% from its previous close.
