Nagpur: In view of heavy waterlogging on Wardha Road due to rain water falling from the double-decker flyover a day ago, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Tuesday served notice to MahaMetro for failing to take proper disposal measures and levying fine. warned of.
The Times of India has videos showing severe waterlogging on a busy stretch of Wardha Road and Airport Road. The clip shows the pipes installed by MahaMetro under the double-decker flyover, causing heavy rainwater to run down the road divider, causing flooding. Similarly, water was falling on the vehicles and passengers passing under the metro flyover at many places.
As per the directions of the Municipal Commissioner, NMC Superintending Engineer Manoj Talewar issued a notice to the Director (Projects) of MahaMetro asking him to personally appear before the civic chief with the details of proposed and complete mitigation measures.
“As per the direction of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, a letter was issued to you on 18th July to take steps to prevent waterlogging on the roads falling under your jurisdiction. The release of rain water from the double-decker flyover on Wardha Road affected nearby residential areas and traffic. It seems that you are not serious towards the problems of the citizens despite the instructions given earlier. NMC is also facing public outcry. Note that if there is no permanent solution you will be fined,” reads the notice issued by Talewar to director (projects) of Mahametro.
The situation remained the same on North Ambazari Road, Hingna Road and Central Avenue. MahaMetro has installed rainwater disposal pipes under metro routes and hangs them on road-dividers or straight roads. Apart from waterlogging, the surface layer of many roads has also suffered serious damage.
MahaMetro spokesperson told TOI that we have not received any notice from NMC and we will be able to comment on it once.
