No ‘achhe din’, number of Indians giving up citizenship is 1.7 times more than in 2014: Congress

Hitting out at the government over several people giving up their Indian citizenship, the Congress on Tuesday questioned the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Would he have talked about the issues that are forcing such a large number of Indians to leave the country in search of “acche din”.

Congress spokesperson Gaurav Vallabh said the Ministry of External Affairs’ data shows that 1,83,741 people have given up their Indian citizenship in the first 10 months of 2022, which amounts to 604 people leaving the country every day.

This is 1.7 times more than the figure of 2014, when an average of 354 people gave up their Indian citizenship every day, he said.

He cited six reasons behind many Indians renouncing their citizenship – persistently high unemployment rate, low growth opportunities due to demonetisation and flawed implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the country in three global indices related to hunger, gender gap bad condition of And freedom of the press, and the country with the maximum number of poor in the world.

Addressing a press conference, Vallabh claimed to have left most of the India are High Net Worth Individuals (HNIs) and asked whether the Prime Minister would address the issues that forced them to leave the country in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio address.

He said that of those giving up Indian citizenship in 2022, about 7,000 had an annual income of more than Rs 8 crore.

He questioned, “Why are more than 600 people giving up their Indian citizenship every day and why the number of Indian people giving up their citizenship of the country is increasing by 1.7 times.”

Vallabh wonders if this is the “real Amrit Kaal” that the Prime Minister talks about.

Posing a set of four questions to the prime minister, the Congress leader asked, “Will he address the issue in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program on Sunday and why ‘acche din’ are not coming for Indians in India.” Indians have now started investing overseas instead of domestically, asking why ‘acche din’ for Indians are coming outside India and not within the country.

Vallabh said this was bound to happen as India’s global ranking has been falling on various parameters with a persistently high unemployment ratio.

Citing CMIE data, he said that in 2022 the unemployment level was more than 7 per cent in nine out of 12 months and in December 2022 the figure was 8.3 per cent and in case of urban unemployment it was 10.9 per cent.

The Congress leader said the country’s economic base, which used to provide employment, has collapsed and that is why the government felt the need to support the people by giving free ration to 80 crore citizens.

He said that India’s rank of 107 out of 121 countries in Global Hunger Index, 135 out of 146 in Global Gender Gap Index and 150 out of 180 countries in Global Press Freedom Index are some of the reasons given by people. Above Indian citizenship.

Besides, he said, due to the twin shocks of demonetisation and “flawed” implementation of GST, GDP growth declined from 8.3 per cent in FY2017 to 3.7 per cent in FY2020 and the economy is yet to fully recover. It is possible. ,

Vallabh cited India having the highest number of poor in the world as another factor behind people giving up Indian citizenship.

Referring to a joint research report by UNDP and Oxford University, he said that in 2020, 228.9 million people in India were below the poverty line and 79 per cent of those who became “extreme poor” globally during the pandemic. Indians.

He alleged that the government did not pass on the benefit of cheap crude oil brought from Russia to the consumers. There is scope to cut petrol and diesel prices by Rs 20-25 per liter since the price of crude oil has come down significantly globally, he said, adding that if the Center slashes the price, then those imposed by state governments The VAT paid will be deducted automatically.
