Onion exports to increase by nearly 50 per cent to $52.1 million in December 2022; Exports grew 16.3 percent to $523.8 million during April-December this fiscal

The government has not banned or restricted the export of onions, and India The Commerce Ministry said on Sunday that during April-December 2022, it has shipped commodities worth $523.8 million. It said that only the export of onion seeds is prohibited.

“The government has not banned or restricted the export of onions. The current export policy of onion is ‘free’. Export of only onion seeds is ‘restricted’ and that too is permitted under authorization from DGFT, the ministry said in a statement.

In December 2022, onion exports increased by about 50 percent to $ 52.1 million. During April-December in the current financial year, exports grew by 16.3 per cent to $523.8 million.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said in a tweet on Saturday that there is no restriction on export of onions from India to any country and making misleading statements to the contrary is unfortunate.
