Judge suggests allowing use of entire cremation ground for members of all castes, communities

The Madras High Court has suggested the Tamil Nadu government to ensure common burials/crematoriums throughout the state for members of all communities.

Justice R Mahadevan made the suggestion while disposing of a writ petition filed by Kalaiselvi and Rajaram, praying for a direction to the Kallakurichi district collector to allot a permanent place for burial for the Arunthathiyar community.

The judge suggested that all the boards put up in the cremation grounds used by different communities exclusively for their castes and communities in the cremation ground located in each village/block/district should be removed and the entire cremation land should be used. to be allowed. Members of all castes and communities without any discrimination.

Other suggestions included creation and maintenance of common cremation/cemetery in every village without any discrimination on the basis of caste and community, which in no way affects the right of fundamental right of every citizen under Article 25 . Constitution.

The judge also suggested the government to incorporate, as part of the school curriculum, the values ​​of religious and communal tolerance and the values ​​of mutual respect for diversity and diversity in religion, community, culture and tradition.
