No new tax or VAT hike in UP in near future: Yogi Adityanath

UP CM Yogi Adityanath said that Value Added Tax (VAT) will not be increased in the near future.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said that the government has neither increased VAT nor imposed any new tax in the state keeping in mind the larger public interest.

Presiding over the meeting of the State Tax Department related to the collection of revenue at his residence, he said that Value Added Tax (VAT) will not be increased in the near future also.

According to an official statement, Mr Adityanath said that the amount collected from the public would be spent on development and public welfare works.

He directed that for the financial year 2022-23, concerted efforts should be made in respect of revenue collection with the aim of collecting Rs 1.50 lakh crore in the form of Goods and Services Tax (GST) and VAT.

The Chief Minister also directed the officers to increase the number of GST registered traders to 4 lakh in the next 6 months.

The statement quoting the Chief Minister said that traders should be made aware of the benefits of GST registration/return.
