No rallies, public meetings in Telangana till Jan 2 amid Omicron fears

It has been said in the order that till January 2, 2022, rallies and public meetings will be prohibited throughout the state.

The Telangana government on Saturday banned rallies and public meetings till January 2 and imposed certain conditions as part of measures to check COVID-19 in light of its divergent omicron emergence.

State Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar issued a Government Order (GO) in the matter in view of the suggestions of the Union Health Ministry and the recent directions issued by the High Court.

It has been said in the order that till January 2, 2022, rallies and public meetings will be prohibited throughout the state.

Other events involving congregation of people will be permitted, subject to instructions including ensuring physical distancing within the venue, allowing anyone without a mask and arranging thermal scanners at the entry point of the venue.

The order said that the order imposing fine for not wearing masks by people in public places should be strictly enforced.

The directions will be strictly implemented with immediate effect, it said.
