Telangana Finance and Health Minister T Harish Rao on Friday said the Center will have to immediately constitute a tribunal to meet the demand for sharing of Krishna river water as the state withdrew its case from the Supreme Court. Addressing a press conference, Harish Rao said that the Center delayed it by seven years. It ignored our appeal in 42 days of the formation of the state and in 2015 Telangana moved the Supreme Court. However, no decision was taken from the Center on this issue and we cleared the way by withdrawing the matter. Then Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti failed to respond to our appeal and now the Center has to decide, he appealed.

“We waited for seven years and now the Center should set up a tribunal to meet our demand for a share in the Krishna basin,” he said. Since AP carries water from Krishna basin to Penna basin, we are not getting our share. Rao said that the Center should constitute a tribunal to solve this problem.

He said perhaps Union Water Resources Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat took the matter personally as he said Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao delayed it through a case in the Supreme Court. Irrespective of the case, the Center can take the decision and now there is no case in the Supreme Court, Rao said.

The minister said that Telangana was created only for water, funds and jobs. He attributed this to the delay by the Center as Telangana had asked for a tribunal in 2014.
