North Korea fires ballistic missile two days after ICBM test

North Korea fired an unspecified ballistic missile on Monday, just two days after launching an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) into the sea off Japan’s west coast.

South Korea’s military said the missile was fired from its east coast toward the waters.

Meanwhile, Japan’s coast guard claimed the second and third missiles appeared to have already landed, Japanese national public broadcaster NHK reported.

Pyongyang’s state media said its latest ICBM test was to further enhance its “deadly” nuclear strike capability and threatened additional powerful moves over upcoming military exercises between the United States and South Korea.

The United States held air drills with South Korea and Japan on Sunday in a show of strength following North Korea’s intercontinental ballistic missile test, as tit-for-tat military moves escalated tensions in the region.

Kim Yo Jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, said it is up to the US to use the Pacific Ocean as its “shooting range”.

In a statement carried by state media KCNA, Kim said Pyongyang is carefully examining the impact of increased presence of US strategic assets in the region.
