‘Not a single AAP MLA has joined BJP’: Kejriwal to move confidence motion in Delhi Assembly on Monday

Amid the ongoing power struggle between the ruling AAP and the BJP in Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday expressed “full faith” in Aam Aadmi Party MLAs and called for a confidence motion in the Assembly to show the strength of his government.

The reaction comes at a time when several reports have surfaced that some AAP MLAs had gone incommunicado ahead of an important meeting at Kejriwal’s residence on Thursday. However, 53 out of 62 AAP MLAs attended the meeting. According to sources, all 62 MLAs were contacted before the meeting.

Meanwhile, the special session of the Delhi Assembly was extended by a day as the ruling party requested for a confidence motion on Monday. Kejriwal said that he is bringing the confidence motion to prove that no AAP MLAs have defected. Hitting out at the saffron party, the Chief Minister said that “Operation Lotus had turned into Operation Mud” as the BJP’s attempt to “buy” the party MLAs was unsuccessful.

The special session was called after AAP alleged that the BJP was trying to woo its MLAs to topple the Kejriwal-led government in the national capital. This was after the recent CBI raids at Deputy CM Manish Sisodia’s house in the liquor policy scam case.

Kejriwal said on the floor of the House that he would like to move a confidence motion to show that the BJP is unable to buy even a single AAP MLA. He said he received calls asking if everything was fine within the party.

“It is being said that they (BJP) broke several MLAs. I got calls, people asked me if everything was fine. I want to move a confidence motion in the House to show the people that not a single one went, that BJP’s Operation Lotus became ‘Operation Mudde’ here,” Kejriwal said.

He further said that the AAP had calculated that the BJP had bought 277 MLAs across the country, while alleging that “that is why there is inflation”. “We have calculated that 277 MLAs have come to his party (BJP), now if he had given Rs 20 crore to each MLA he would have bought MLAs worth Rs 5,500 crore. So there is inflation as they are using all the money to buy MLAs at the cost of common man,” said the Delhi CM.

Kejriwal also said that all “anti-national forces” had come together against the AAP government in Delhi as it was the “most popular”. He said that the BJP will fabricate one or the other case to target AAP till the Gujarat Assembly elections. “These forces want to break us but all our MLAs are together. They will fabricate false cases against us till the Gujarat elections,” he said, adding that the BJP has brought down several governments so far – Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Meghalaya.

Kejriwal also attacked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi In his speech during the special assembly session, he alleged that the recent raids against Delhi ministers are linked to elections in Gujarat. “The BJP fort in Gujarat is in danger and is collapsing now. ED, CBI raids on us have happened because of upcoming elections in Gujarat.
