Billionaire Elon Musk is now the new owner of Twitter, months after he made the first bid to buy the social media company in April. The billionaire has fired the top four executives of the social media company, including Indian-origin CEO Parag Agarwal. Both share the same alma mater as they read PhD at Stanford University in California. Musk’s tenure at the university, however, lasted just two days after he was admitted to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program in physics.

Parag, the one who did B.Tech in Computer Science from IIT Bombay, completed his PhD program in the subject from Stanford. He had also received a Young Alumnus Award from IIT Bombay for his achievements. He published a thesis on Incorporating Uncertainty in Data Management and Integration in 2012. Before joining Twitter, he worked with Microsoft Research and Yahoo! research.
Agarwal, who has been associated with Twitter since 2011, was its CTO till 2017. He was known as one of the ‘first picks’ of Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey. Not just Dorsey, Agarwal’s teachers also remember him as one of the ‘smartest’ and smartest students.
Musk chose the path of entrepreneurship and launched his first technology company, Zip2, in 1995. He laid the foundation of many successful companies including PayPal, Tesla, SpaceX.
Musk had earlier accused Parag Agarwal of misleading him and Twitter investors about the number of fake accounts on the social media platform. However, Agarwal will not go empty handed. According to a report by Reuters, Agarwal will make an estimated $42 million, which includes Parag’s one-year basic salary and accelerated vesting of all equity awards.
