Nothing Phone (1) Launched in India at Rs 32,999: Full Specifications, Launch Offers and All Details

LONDON: Carl Pei’s new consumer technology brand ‘Nothing’ has officially entered the Android mobile market with the launch of its first smartphone called the Nothing Phone (1). Pei started the OnePlus brand in 2013 with Pete Lau and in 2020 Pei left OnePlus to start Nothing and the first product was the Nothing Ear (1) earbuds.

Coming to the new Nothing Phone (1), the smartphone is catering to the mid-range segment under Rs 40,000 with a starting price of Rs 32,999. The smartphone is trying to differentiate itself from the crowded market with a unique LED-lighting transparent back panel with a clean software experience.

The device comes in three RAM and storage options and in two colors – Black and White. Note that while the brand claims the phone (1) to be transparent, the reality is that the device comes with a cover inside the glass rear panel that mimics the look of a transparent phone. Nothing Phone (1) will be available in Black & White in India from July 21, 2022 at 7 PM on Flipkart. Interested buyers can also pre-order the smartphone to get launch offers. Note that there is no microSD card slot in the phone to expand the storage and you won’t find any charging adapter or protection case inside the box.

If you want to buy the complete package, you will have to spend Rs 2,499 for the 45W charging adapter for protection and Rs 1,499 for the original clear case. Also, nothing is selling tempered glass for Rs 999.

If you pre-order the Nothing Phone (1) smartphone, you will get a discount of Rs.1,000. For pre-order customers, Nothing is offering introductory prices for a limited period of time: 8GB/128GB (Rs 31,999), 8GB/256GB (Rs 34,999), and 12GB/256GB (Rs 37,999).

The Nothing Phone (1) flaunts a glass body design with an aluminum frame with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on both the front and back. The device mimics the look of a transparent phone and comes in white and black color options. There’s a USB Type-C port for charging and support for 5G, along with a dual-SIM card slot. There is no headphone jack and the device comes with IP53 splash and dust resistance which can ensure that dust does not collect under the transparent rear panel. The phone weighs 194 grams.

The device comes with a 6.55-inch flexible OLED display with 2400×1080-pixel resolution at 402 ppi. It has HDR10+ support with 60Hz – 120Hz adaptive refresh rate.

The biggest highlight is the back panel of the phone that displays an LED light strip pattern powered by a Glyph interface. The unique light pattern made from 900 LEDs indicates who is calling and signals app notifications, charging status, and more. You can also use the light instead of the hard flash LED as a soft light when taking pictures. There is a Flip to Glyph feature that triggers silent, light-only notifications by holding the phone (1) with the Glyph interface face up.

Coming to the camera, there is a dual camera setup with 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor, /1.88 aperture, OIS and EIS image stabilization, HDR and Slo-mo (120 fps) with 50MP Ultra Wide Samsung. JN1 sensor with /2.2 aperture, EIS image stabilization, Macro (4 cm) and HDR. On the front, there is a 16MP Sony IMX471 sensor with /2.45 aperture and support for 1080p video recording at 30 fps.

The camera supports 4K recording at 30 fps, 1080p recording at 30 or 60 fps, Live HDR at 30 fps with OIS and EIS image stabilization.

The Nothing Phone (1) is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon TM778G+ (6nm TSMC process) chipset clocked at 1.8GHz with Adreno 642L GPU, LDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.

The Android 12-based Nothing OS delivers the software experience on the Nothing phone (1). The interface is close to stock Android with some useful tweaks and no bloatware. You can easily control third party products from the quick settings of the phone (1) like nothing else, starting with Tesla. Open the doors, turn on the AC, see miles left and more. More third party brand integrations will be announced soon.

As far as software updates are concerned, the Nothing Phone (1) will get 3 years of Android updates and 4 years of security patches every 2 months.

The device supports face and finger unlock and also works with face covering. It packs a 4500mAh battery with 33W PD3.0 wired charging, 15W Qi wireless charging with dual charging support, and 5W reverse charging.
