In an order issued by the Legislature Secretary Namrata Ulman, it has been informed that the notification dated July 8 under Rule 308 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Goa Legislative Assembly stands withdrawn.

Goa Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tavkar on Sunday canceled the notification for the election of deputy speaker, which was scheduled to be held on July 12. The move comes amid speculation that some Congress MLAs in the 40-member House may join the ruling BJP.

In the order issued by the Legislature Secretary Namrata Ulman, in the notification dated July 8, the rules of procedure and conduct have been given under Rule 308 of the Rules. Business The Goa Legislative Assembly has been withdrawn. The order further read, “Therefore, the notice of nomination for the election of Deputy Speaker issued under Rules 9(2) of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the Goa Legislative Assembly is also withdrawn.”

Meanwhile, on the eve of the two-week assembly session starting Monday, Goa Congress chief Amit Patkar rubbished plans of some of his MLAs to join the BJP, saying such rumors were being spread by the ruling party. Huh.
