The Army has announced changes in the Agniveer recruitment process and candidates aspiring to join the force will now first have to appear for the online Common Entrance Examination (CEE), followed by a physical fitness and medical test.

Advertisements regarding the change in procedure have been given by the Army in various newspapers, sources said on Saturday, adding that notification for this is expected to be issued by mid-February.

A source said that the first online CEE is scheduled to be held in April at around 200 locations across the country and all preparations have been finalized for the same.

“The changed methodology will ensure more focus on the cognitive aspect during the selection. It will have a wider reach across the country and will make them more manageable and easier to conduct, reducing the large crowds seen during recruitment rallies,” said the source.

An advertisement published in a leading newspaper on Friday titled ‘Transformational Changes in Recruitment in Indian Army’ lists a new three-stage methodology for the recruitment process.

The first step will be online CEE for all candidates at designated centres, followed by physical fitness test and finally medical test for CEE-qualified candidates during recruitment rallies.

“For Agniveer recruitment process, first, candidates had to undergo physical fitness test, followed by medical test and appearing for CEE was the final stage. But, now the Common Online CEE is the first step. This will also help in easing the screening process and the logistics involved,” said the source.

He said the new process will be applicable to around 40,000 candidates who are willing to join the Army from the next recruitment cycle of 2023-24.
