The ministry said that the Center is coming up with a process for admission of girl students in Rashtriya Indian Military College and Rashtriya Military Schools.

After the National Defense Academy (NDA), girl candidates are now allowed to take admission in the Rashtriya Indian Military College and Rashtriya Military Schools run by the Ministry of Defense, which till now have been all-boys educational institutions. The Supreme Court has approved the government’s affidavit for admission of girls in Military College and directed the ministry to complete the admission process from this year itself.
In an affidavit, the ministry said that the Center is coming out with a process for admission of girl students in Rashtriya Indian Military College and Rashtriya Military Schools. However, the admission process was to begin from the next academic session.
The ministry in its affidavit also said that the military school and college would require additional vacancies along with other allied infrastructure and administrative support to facilitate the induction of girls. It also informed that girls would be allowed to appear in the All India Entrance Test conducted for admission to Rashtriya Indian Military Schools from next year.
The affidavit states that the girls will be allowed to appear in the Rashtriya Indian Military College entrance examination to be held in June 2022. According to the statement, the number of seats will be increased from 250 to 300 by inducting five girls every six months, while in the phase 2 seats will increase from 300 to 350 to cover 10 girls every six months. The final expansion will be done in the year 2027 and the schools will have 250 boys and 100 girls. A separate panel will be constituted to carry out the admission process of women candidates in military schools.
Meanwhile, the Center has already allowed the induction of women candidates in the National Defense Academy from this year. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has invited applications for NDA and Naval Academy from female candidates on its official website. The application process was started from September 24 and ended on October 8.
