Don’t worry, CUET syllabus will be restricted to class XII board exams: UGC

The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Tuesday started releasing the admit cards for the first phase of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), which is commencing from July 15. The admit card for the second phase, which will start from August 4, will be issued. 31st July.

The clarity on the issue of admit cards has calmed the nerves of over 14 lakh candidates who have registered to take CUET for the first time to take graduate admissions in over 90 universities.

University Grants Commission Chairman M. Jagadesh Kumar said that the admit cards were issued three days before the examination to keep the examination safe. He called it a common practice with the NTA.

“Focus on your exams and don’t get worried. The syllabus of CUET is going to be restricted to class XII board exams which will be fresh in your mind,” Mr. Kumar told the students in a video statement.

Delhi University vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh told The Hindu that the university will start its counseling process in the last week of August or the first week of September, as it expects the NTA to release the results by then.

“This is the first time that students are appearing for CUET, so it is natural to have some concerns but students need to focus on appearing for the exam and can be assured that NTA will not be able to conduct such exams. A competent agency for Singh said.

He said that, unlike JEE, students appearing for CUET can choose from several subject combinations that they are familiar with.

The NTA said that candidates have applied for a combination of 54,555 unique subjects and due to the large number of subjects, a unique date sheet has been created for each individual candidate.

On Tuesday, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia interacted with the students of Delhi government schools availing the free CUET preparatory classes offered by the government.

“Many Delhi government school students wanted to prepare for the entrance exam but could not afford the high coaching fee. In a unique initiative, the Kejriwal government has ensured that all aspiring students are provided assistance at the school level itself so that they do not give up on their dreams due to financial constraints,” Mr. Sisodia said.
